I just finished watching
I just finished watching "Storm" and I enjoyed it, as far as it went. What happend to ending the storylines? Did the Highwayman end up with the Gypsy's sister? Did Paul's character end up with the Chiefs' daughter or the woman he was in love with? Did the Young Buck, ever get close to figuring things out?
The Highwayman and the Gypsy
The Highwayman and the Gypsy Girl got married and had lots of pretty babies. Sadly, the Gypsy King refused to go to the wedding. Things went along fairly well with his blonde captive, but as it turns out, kidnapping is not really a great basis for a lasting romantic relationship, and she eventually stole back all the gold he'd stolen in the first place, and returned to her village to great celebration.
The nobleman and the rich lady got married... unfortunately, it came out that she was already married and was forced to return to her castle and actual husband. On the plus side, she had sort of missed her fancy carriage. The nobleman spent the rest of his life at the local pub.
The young lad finally did figure things out, realized that the people telling him what to do were generally all idiots themselves, and he ran off to join the circus where he found lifelong fulfillment as an Irish dancing showman.
Finally, the genial elder of the village decided that it was far too much work keeping track of everyone, retired to a country home in Glasgow, and spent the rest of his days in plenty of Guinness. And they all lived happilyish ever after.

Maybe, but I'm pretty sure I've seen that young lad on an American TV show dressed as a singing/dancing leprechaun. So maybe he got tired of the dancing snowman gig. (lol)

I must admit I wasn't sure about this either but it grows on you. It's CT and how could you not Love what they bring to us! For this DVD/CD my fav's are "Outside Looking In" (partial to Ryans' voice, his fab eyes and jet black hair OMG) but then there's Keith singing "Stand and Deliver" with that beautiful full head of blonde hair, also fab voice, blue eyes-The Highwayman-OMG he can steal my jewels anytime!! AND for the younger crowd, who think they know it all but haven't quite grown up yet-you've got Damian singing "When Your're 18". To keep going I enjoy the bantering between Keith and Damian when singing "Look at Me" sounds like two brothers fighting. George, as always he takes the parental lead (Love it and his ballads-he's the age of my eldest son), Phil I wasn't too sure at first as I've not been an opera fan and his tenor voice?? but he proved me wrong and I now love listening to him sing-there is a large range in his song choices-not always operetic. CT has taught me to Grow and Appreciate the diversity of talent that is out there. Long May The Thunder Roar!!!!! Eydie from Sechelt, BC Canada
A little disappointed
For some reason I thought that Storm was a musical. Really it is a concert with a twist!
Liked some of the songs, not many.
In any case saw Voyage a couple of weeks ago and the show was fantastic.
Many thanks to JoJo and Staci for following these blogs and answering so many questions.

Happy to help. I see storm
Happy to help. I see storm as more of a concept musical, having seen a few of those in my time. They contain songs and a kind of story which Storm has and can be fleshed out with a larger cast, staging and more songs like OKLAHOMA or South Pacific. It is a good beginning and I think with a few changes it would be an amazing full length musical.

If I remember correctly (and you're stretching my memory here), the "branch" that they stood on was a plank... but the branch they swung off of was "a real tree branch!"

Amazon
I wondered if you guys were aware of some sort of problem at Amazon, regarding the Storm DVD. I cut and pasted the reply I got when I went to order it:
Item Under Review
While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)
We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

Storm at Amazon
How strange! I got my first copy from CT but ordered another one from Amazon (ships faster) and it's fine. The message you saw is still up there...
A bit confused...
Exactly what part does Deirdre Shannon play in this performance? I know she is introduced in the opening credits as "The Gentlewoman," but I really don't understand the context of her character. Prior to seeing the show in its entirety (seeing only the teaser video), my guess was that she was some kind of "spirit" character when she appeared in all white and sang "Harry's Game." But in the performance she questions the identity of The Highwayman in the song of same name and turns out to be the one Paul's character is truly in love with in "Tender Is The Night." (Forsaking George's prior offer of his daughter.
) These two pieces taken together cast aspersions on my prior "spirit" idea, and it now seems to me that she is more of a local personality, considering she doesn't appear in any of the other songs featuring either the settlers or the gypsies.
Anyone care to help a brother out? I've watched the DVD three times now and I'm still confused. Thanks!
In general, this is how I see
In general, this is how I see the story...
Keith, our dashing Irish Robin Hood, robs the coach of the nobility. After relieving the inhabitants of their precious jewelry, he rides off into the forest. While the man in the coach is busy yelling at the driver for allowing this to happen, the woman in the carriage, suddenly besotten with the Highwayman, sneaks out of the carriage and chases after him.
She follows him to the village, where she is about to proclaim her eternal love... but alas! She is too late, as Gypsy Girl has already stolen his... ardor. So, I guess she sort of hangs out in the village for awhile... maybe she got lost and doesn't know how to get home. No payphones either.
But wait! All is not lost... Paul sees her singing around in her mysteriously-acquired 2nd dress, flipping her skirt around (as is the basis of all lasting relationships), and immediately falls in love... and everyone lives happily ever after.
Thanks!

Ahh, very interesting! I never thought to see Deirdre's character as the lady in the carriage. And yes, with no phone, light, or motorcar, it would be kind of hard for her to find a place to go.
see now I figured she was
see now I figured she was intrigued with where the young Irish Robin Hood lived and wanted to check it out, not perhaps to meet him, but to live a life away from the yelling man in the carriage....because we know that a girl always goes for the bad boys not the boring ones.

PLAYS what part
PLAYS what part
I have had STORM for a few
I have had STORM for a few days now and, to be honest, there are parts I LOVE but there are parts I can live without.
I love A New Dawning, Look At Me, and Hail the Hero
However, not wild about all the girls in it. Using the girls in the band as dancers etc; great idea. But the focus should have been on the guys.
Neil was shown on the cover but has no solo song
but overall I loved it!
i finally got my Storm DVD
i finally got my Storm DVD and I have found it totally entertaining. I was impressed on how well the show's story was told through music alone. There's only one problem. For the the past two nights, I've been waking up throughout the night with the storm songs running through my head. I'm old and i need my sleep!

Storm
Know exaclty where you're coming from. Can't get it out of my head either. I'm addicted to CT and have been playing Storm (DVD and CD) whenever possible (plus all their other performances!!) Wasn't sure about it to start with but the more I listened and played the show the more I liked the show!!-I can't get enough. KEITH!! No matter what he sings OMG!! and then there's Ryan Pure Sex Appeal (does the Devil may Care Really well!!) Hope we get to see it live on stage. With all the changes I wonder? Keeping fingers crossed that BC is on the tour. LOVE THEM ALL Eydie from Sechelt, BC
Funny
Isly -- that is so funny! I just posted on the blog how I can't get the songs out of my mind!
I'm not young either... when I fall asleep, wake up, all through the day, the songs are running through
my head! Most especially "When you are 18", "Stand and deliver" and "The Highwayman."
While Ryan is my favorite, his songs are not the ones going over and over and over. Help!!!

DVD
Just got my STORM and am so fascinated with everything that's going on I barely have time to enjoy the music. That's where the Cd fits in.I am one who finds watching this troup a bit distracting so I fully enjoy the musical talent thru the cd.(makes sense to me)Paul is a natural in this kind of setting....just molds into the scene and becomes a part.Love Deidre..she's a great addition to this setup.Neil hasn't a large part but I realize why that is but I have new favorite songs..Lagan Love...and the ending..Hail the Hero.I wish this had been released sooner but better now than never.Midnight Well,Shadows Dancing,Stand and Deliver....I cannot choose because each member brings something rare to the show.....keep them coming.......
always a friend...Oreo
First time watching Storm.... certainly won't be my last!!
I finally received my copy of Storm yesterday. While I knew it would be great, I didn't know it would be THIS great! From the energetic tribal dancing of Ryan and his band of gypsies at the beginning (although it looks like one of them is break-dancing at one point, which made me laugh...those who pay close attention to this scene may pick up on what I am referring to) to the fight song-style rendition of "Mo Ghile Mear," the whole performance is epic. Why it took nearly two years for this thing to be released is beyond me. I, personally, would rather have seen this released before another helping of Irish/Scottish material. That may be what put CT on the map, but Storm is the guys trying something entirely different, and succeeding 110%. Why it got all of the flack that it did, I will never know. Seems to me that a lot of people don't take well to change, and would rather that their favorite groups be one-trick ponies as opposed to experimenting and keeping themselves relevant and interesting. But, I digress.
Anyway, my favorite performances are "When You Are 18" (Having heard many of the things Damian sang about from others during my life, it was easy for me to relate to.), "Stand and Deliver" (Keith plays his character VERY well, but that's not surprising.), "Lagan Love" (The combination of Paul, Damian, Neil, and George's voices is amazing.), "Tender Is The Night" (Hauntingly beautiful, and Paul's voice meshes perfectly with that of Deirdre.), and "This Was My Life." (George's singing makes me cry here, in a good way.)
I would absolutely love to see another musical theater-style performance from CT in the future. But with Phil Coulter out of the picture, that doesn't seem likely. Taking nothing away from Dave Munro (he was fantastic on the keyboard when I saw the guys Wednesday night!), I think only Phil could deliver something as grand as Storm is. And even if he did, odds are good a large contingent of fans would hate it because, God forbid, the guys aren't playing banjos and extolling the virtues of Guinness.
Different but still AWESOME
Don't quite know what I expected from Storm, but not this. That said, it's wonderful! I really enjoyed seeing the guys "as they were" and especially Damian's duet with Keith toward the end - it came alive! Actually all their songs were alive, and it gave us a chance to see their acting abilities as well. Now that you know Ryan's back - and especially after seeing the joy in his face when they appeared on QVC - you can tell that there's "something" weighing on him...or maybe it's just his role! At any rate, I really did enjoy it. Now if they'd just ship George's new CD and Phil's, I'd be a happy camper! Don't forget to watch Damian on Glee!

LOVED STORM
I thoroughly enjoyed STORM. It was different from what we as fans were expecting but GREAT!!! Hope it will tour with CT next year maybe as Act II with a strong celtic ACT I with only the Lads. Since it has been recently promoted, we have a better idea of what the "story line" is and hopefully, more comfortable sharing the Lads with others on stage. They stand out no matter what!!! It worked well with Zara at the beginning. Lighten up everyone!!! No one can out shine the guys!!!
There seem to be three sets of CT Fans.
1. Loves only the guys on stage singing.
2. Loves guys as the "main course" with a little dancing or extras singing
3. (ME INCLUDED) Loves the LADS in whatever format they choose. They stand out whenever they sing.
GREAT JOB SHARON, PHIL AND THE LADS.

Storm
Hate to say it, but it wasn't what I was expecting. After seeing Heritage I didn't find it that good, but I did like it! It just wasn't the greatest... So don't yell at me for saying that!
Celtic_Princess24 NOT Celitc_Princess24
Some people bleed Cubbie Blue, but bleed Celtic Thunder Green
What's happening?
I've been a big fan of Celtic Thunder since they first appeared on PBS. Have all their CDs and saw them live. Storm is the biggest disappointment ever. These guys are talented singers -- individually and as an ensemble. They should stick to what they do best and that is not prancing around the set and acting out some silly theme-related mini drama. If CT comes back to my area and is doing Storm, I wouln't pay $10 to go. Please, guys, go back to your "heritage."
Storm
I think the songs from Storm are decent, but many of them seem weak compared to the other shows CT has done. The women needed better dresses, they are completely inappropriate for a family show. The movements of the guys are extremely over-exaggerated, even more than a normal stage production would require. The stage seemed entirely to large for the production the guys were always running to cross the stage and seemed to get in the way of the camera several times. They needed better choreography, most of the movements seemed completely out of place.
I would say that if Storm ever makes a stage appearance, CT needs to make some major changes.
Totally disagree
While I laud everyone's unique opinion and feelings on this one, I thought Storm was fantastic. The production quality on this show was par excellent, from the enhanced set and lighting, to the guest appearances that truly developed the story... which was there, by the way (IMHO). (The HD quality of the DVD is akin to Blu-ray specs and the surround sound was awesome.) Although the songs were not as euphoric in range and ultra-dynamics, the all-original score by Phil Coulter was phenomenal, and very perfectly strategic in its delivery of the dual bittersweet battles of Irish land/personal rights and love.
I, too, love the cast members (performers) in CT, and always hate to see them leave, as well as not get the spotlight to truly shine with incredible soaring vocals. But, I had to realize that CT is not a group; it is, indeed, a show. And, while I am very much looking forward to the new tour with Heritage songs and new (Voyage) songs, I have been mesmerized by Storm...
(No offense intended to anyone here at all, as I am just another unique opinion and feeling.)
I Agree
I agree with inishmore. I don't like STORM at all. The songs, the costumes, the women. It is Celtic Thunder, not Celtic Thunder meets Celtic Woman. The dresses on the women leave nothing to the imagination. Women didn't dress like that back then. There is no story. A musical tells a story. STORM does not. Very poorly done. I wouldn't go see it for free.
STORM should be on tour
I would love to see STORM on tour. The original sets were wonderful but they don't need live trees and such a large area. It can and should be done in my opinion. A lot of ingenuity and planning could definitely "pull this off" and be more than GREAT!!!
S. S. Shipp
it's ok
I kinda agree with you. It definetley wasn't their best. I liked some of the songs like "Look at Me", Outside Lookin' In", and "Stand and Deliver" but I wasn't a big fan of the show as a whole. I'll probably just get the soundtrack.
If we've ever needed you, Lord it's now.-Casting Crowns
Storm
Not everyone will like Storm, it's different from what most people are used to. However, many of the CT cast have done acting before and this presentation gave them a chance to show more of their abilities. I personally loved it. The story was Irish heritage giving a short insight into how the people felt about the island that eventually became home. I doubt that it will ever tour because the sets were quite elaborate and huge space is required. Some of the songs may find their way into other shows though. Some were traditional and some were written by Phil just for the singers.
I think STORM was a
I think STORM was a incredible Idea. It brings something new to the show. And I would Deffinately go see it if they came to my town.
