Celtic Thunder Gives Back - The Sinethemba Special Care Centre for Disabled Children Extension now in Progress
We feel so blessed by the support of our fans around the world. We understand that with success also comes responsibility to give back to those less fortunate. With that in mind here is an update on a very special place we have chosen to support.
The Sinethemba Special Care Centre for Disabled Children
In all disadvantaged communities, certain parents are faced with the immense struggle of having to cope with children who have special needs, and being hampered by the costs of raising these children they often face insurmountable challenges. In Masiphumelele, a black poverty-stricken township south of Cape Town, South Africa, we have met a wonderful organization that runs and administers the Sinethemba Special Care Centre that brings relief to many families. The center provides for children in need with trained personnel to administer therapy, education and healthy nutrition.
Since 1954, the Fish Hoek Kommetjie Noordhoek Welfare Association (a non-profit organization) has been active in the area, and built the Sinethemba Special Care Centre in Masiphumelele two years ago. The building can accommodate 24 children, but because of a long waiting list of handicapped children needing care, an extension of the existing building is needed.
So far, the Fish Hoek Kommetjie Noordhoek Welfare Association along with the Rotary Club Cape of Good Hope have collected R$40,000 and have begun construction on the extension of the Sinethemba Centre. The organizations would love to extend their deepest gratitude to all the members of the Celtic Thunder Forum, who have already contributed R$10,000 (about $1300 US dollars) to this wonderful cause.

All the good that comes of it...
I'm no economist, and to be sure things are only getting more expensive on a global scale. But in these times, when my US dollar in the US economy doesn't go far enough; and I gift it "send if overseas" as with this opportunity I am reminded of the strength of US currency in other markets, the power, the value, the benefit of a single US dollar multiplied within the economy of another - how it serves and all the good that comes of it.
Thank you for the update.

This is just wonderful news. To know that fans have contributed 1/4 of the amount is just so touching.
